BottleRock Napa Valley returns May 22–24, 2026, and if you're making the trip for the music, you'd be crazy not to add some wine tasting to the itinerary. The Napa Valley Expo sits right on the edge of some of the most storied wine country in the world — and there are excellent wineries within a short drive in every direction.

Here are eight wineries worth visiting before or after the festival, all within 20 minutes of the venue.

The Stags Leap District — 10–15 Minutes East

The Stags Leap District is one of Napa's most prestigious AVAs, just a quick drive east from downtown along the Silverado Trail. These four wineries sit in the shadow of the volcanic palisades that give the district its name.

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars estate and vineyards in the Stags Leap District

This is where Napa Valley proved itself to the world. In 1976, the winery's 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon beat top Bordeaux in the famous Judgment of Paris blind tasting — a moment that put California wine on the global map. Fifty years later, the wines are still extraordinary. The estate tasting is a seated experience overlooking the caves and vineyards, and the Cabernets are what you'd expect from a place with this kind of history: structured, elegant, and built to age.

The details: Reservation required. Plan for 75–90 minutes. About 7 miles from the Expo (12-minute drive).

Shafer Vineyards

Shafer Vineyards hillside estate overlooking Napa Valley

If you know one wine from Stags Leap, it's probably Shafer's Hillside Select — one of the most sought-after Cabernets in Napa Valley. The winery sits on a steep hillside with views across the valley floor, and the tasting experience is intimate and personal. This is a small operation that doesn't feel like a tourist destination, and that's part of what makes it special.

The details: Reservation required (book well in advance). About 6 miles from the Expo (11-minute drive).

Chimney Rock Winery

Chimney Rock Winery's distinctive Cape Dutch architecture

The Cape Dutch architecture makes Chimney Rock one of the more distinctive-looking wineries in the valley, but the real draw is the combination of excellent wine and a relaxed outdoor setting. The estate has picnic grounds — a rarity at this level — which makes it a great stop for a longer, slower visit. The Cabernet Sauvignons and Cabernet Francs are polished and approachable.

The details: Picnic-friendly. Reservation required. About 7 miles from the Expo (12-minute drive).

Clos Du Val

Clos Du Val winery and grounds in the Stags Leap District

French-founded and French-inflected, Clos Du Val brings a Bordeaux sensibility to Napa fruit. The wines tend to be more restrained and food-friendly than the typical valley-floor blockbusters, which is refreshing after a weekend of festival energy. The overall vibe is low-key and welcoming.

The details: Reservation required. About 6 miles from the Expo (11-minute drive).

Carneros — 10–15 Minutes South

Head south from the Expo toward the Carneros region and you'll find a different side of Napa — cooler climate, more Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and a generally more relaxed atmosphere. These three wineries are perfect for a post-festival wind-down.

Domaine Carneros

Domaine Carneros château and terrace overlooking the Carneros hills

If you're going to celebrate surviving three days of BottleRock, sparkling wine on a château terrace overlooking the Carneros hills is the way to do it. Domaine Carneros is the California outpost of Champagne Taittinger, and everything about the experience — the grand staircase entrance, the terrace seating, the méthode traditionnelle sparklers — feels like a proper occasion. This is one of the most photogenic spots in all of wine country.

The details: No reservation needed for the terrace, but recommended for seated tastings. About 6 miles from the Expo (10-minute drive).

Artesa Vineyards

Artesa Vineyards modern hillside architecture with panoramic views

Built into a hillside with a modern, almost sculptural design, Artesa offers panoramic views across the Carneros appellation all the way to San Francisco on a clear day. The architecture alone is worth the trip. Inside, the wines lean toward cool-climate elegance — Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and some excellent Albariño. No reservation needed, which makes it an easy add to any day.

The details: Walk-in friendly. Panoramic views. About 7 miles from the Expo (12-minute drive).

Bouchaine Vineyards

Bouchaine Vineyards patio and Carneros vineyard views

Bouchaine is the most laid-back stop on this list, and that's a compliment. It's the most affordable tasting in the area, it's dog-friendly, and you don't need a reservation. The Pinot Noirs are excellent — this was one of the first wineries to recognize Carneros as prime Pinot territory — and the patio has that easy, come-as-you-are energy that pairs well with a post-concert afternoon.

The details: No reservation needed. Dog-friendly. Most affordable tasting on this list. About 6 miles from the Expo (10-minute drive).

Mount Veeder — A Scenic Detour

Hess Collection

The Hess Collection winery and art museum on Mount Veeder

If someone in your group isn't that into wine, take them to Hess. The winery doubles as a contemporary art museum, with a permanent collection that includes works by Francis Bacon, Robert Motherwell, and Anselm Kiefer. It's a genuinely impressive gallery — and then you taste through mountain-grown Cabernets that are intense and mineral-driven, completely different from the valley-floor style. The drive up Mount Veeder is scenic and winding, adding to the sense of getting away from it all.

The details: Art museum is free. Reservation required for tastings. About 10 miles from the Expo (20-minute scenic mountain drive).

Practical Tips for Festival-Goers

Book now. BottleRock weekend is one of the busiest in Napa. Wineries near the Expo will fill up, especially the reservation-required spots like Stag's Leap and Shafer. Don't wait.

Time it right. Most wineries open at 10am and last tastings are around 4pm. If you have a Friday or Sunday festival ticket, mornings are perfect for tasting. If you're going all three days, book tastings for Thursday before or Monday after.

Designate a driver. Between festival drinks and wine tastings, this is non-negotiable. Ride-shares work in downtown Napa, but they get spotty in Stags Leap and Carneros. Consider a wine country car service or shuttle for the day.

Eat between stops. The three-winery day is the standard recommendation, and that applies double when you're also attending a music festival. Don't try to squeeze in six wineries and BottleRock in the same day.

Use the trip planner. The route planner will map out drive times between these wineries so you can build an efficient itinerary without backtracking.

Where to Stay

Staying in downtown Napa puts you walking distance from the Expo and minutes from all eight wineries on this list. For the full rundown, see the BottleRock hotel guide. Here are the top picks:

  • The George — Boutique luxury on Randolph Street. 5.0-star Google rating. Walking distance to the Expo and the best restaurants in downtown Napa.
  • Archer Hotel Napa — Rooftop bar, modern design, downtown location. The rooftop is the move for post-festival nightcaps.
  • Andaz Napa — Hyatt property right in the middle of everything. Points-friendly if you're a loyalty member.
  • The Westin Verasa Napa — Napa River views, spacious rooms, and a pool for recovery days.
