Chimney Rock's 2021 Stags Leap District Cabernet ranked #5 in Wine Spectator's 2024 list.
Chimney Rock Winery, established in 1980, is renowned for its commitment to quality and sustainability in winemaking. Acquired by the Terlato family in 2004, the winery has built upon its rich history and unique Stags Leap District terroir, focusing on intelligent farming and a thoughtful winemaking approach led by Winemaker Elizabeth Vianna. This dedication has earned Chimney Rock a reputation for crafting exceptional wines that truly reflect their sense of place.
Winemaker Elizabeth Vianna crafts Cabernet Sauvignon that earned national recognition when Wine Spectator named the 2021 vintage fifth best in the world. Visitors can taste verticals spanning 2017 to 2023 in the Timeless Terroir experience, or pair bold reds with brunch dishes in the Savor Sunday's Meets the Unexpected session—an unconventional $150 pairing that challenges the white-wine-with-breakfast rule.

The property sits at 5350 Silverado Trail, where the Terlato family—owners since 2004—maintain architecture that contrasts with the rustic barns typical of Stags Leap District. Guests taste either on a shaded patio or in private salons, with the Vineyard Odyssey Tour using a specially designed cart to traverse estate blocks. The winery opened in 1980, making it one of the earlier modern establishments in this subappellation known for volcanic soils and afternoon breezes.

Educators pour through seven distinct experiences, starting at $60 for the Elevage flight and reaching $195 for the cart-based Vineyard Odyssey. The Taste of Terroir ($75) delivers estate-grown wines with historical context, while The Cellar Selection ($125) focuses on building a home collection with guidance on storage-worthy bottles. Brunch pairings run $150, and the 40 Years vertical costs $125 for seven consecutive vintages of Stags Leap District Cabernet.
