René and Laurence Schlatter hold their Cabernet Sauvignons in bottle longer before release.
Merryvale Vineyards is renowned for its powerful and concentrated Napa Valley wines, crafted with a European sensibility by founders René and Laurence Schlatter. The winery emphasizes sustainable farming and meticulous winemaking practices, allowing their Cabernet Sauvignons to age gracefully before release, which enhances their personality and elegance. Visitors can expect a unique experience that reflects the rich heritage and artistry of winemaking in Napa Valley.
Profile Estate Vertical Tasting takes visitors 800 feet above St. Helena on the steep hillsides east of town, where Merryvale's flagship wine comes from. The site itself — not just what's poured — explains why the Schlatters age their wines the way they do before letting them leave the property.

Merryvale occupies 1000 Main Street in St. Helena, a building whose history reaches back before Prohibition. The hillside vineyards that supply the wines sit elsewhere — Profile Estate perches 800 feet up in the steep terrain east of town. The contrast between valley floor address and mountainside fruit defines what ends up in the glass, and the Terroir Experience tracks that elevation shift bottle by bottle.
Winery Exclusives Experience at $50 pours small-production wines unavailable elsewhere, a straight shot through current releases. Terroir Experience at $80 is seated and moves from valley floor to mountaintop AVAs through estate bottlings. Grand Cru Experience at $150 adds library selections of proprietary reds with cheese pairings, while Blind Tasting Experience at $140 strips the labels off and teaches analysis by structure and site instead of name.

Learn how to analyze and identify wine with your senses rather than a wine label. After covering some of the core concepts of winemaking, terroir and regions and their roles in wine, your guide will lead you through a blind tasting of both red and white wines to learn to identify colors, aromas and flavors and what each tells you about that wine. This session is designed to be approachable for wine lovers while offering a challenge to enthusiasts.
A deep dive into our Estate proprietary red wines with a tasting of the current release and library selections accompanied by a selection of cheeses.
A private tasting of our flagship wine at its source, our Profile estate. Perched in the steep hillsides east of St. Helena 800 feet above the valley floor, this gem of a vineyard features an array of elevations, exposures and soils that give this single-vineyard wine its stunning complexity and distinctive personality. The deck at the estate offers vista views of Napa Valley and is where you’ll enjoy a vertical tasting of Profile and picnic lunch, followed by a guided walking tour of this iconic site.
