Mark Mazzoni built Zialena around ten open-top concrete fermenters in 2016.
Zialena Winery is a family-owned estate that emphasizes a commitment to quality and tradition in winemaking. With a focus on estate-grown grapes, the winery utilizes innovative techniques, including open-top concrete fermentation tanks, to create distinct wines that reflect the unique terroir of their Geyserville property. The Mazzoni family's legacy as fourth-generation grape growers informs their approach, ensuring consistency and integrity in every bottle.
The 1897 Tasting overlooks Mazzoni Vineyard, a 100-acre estate the family has farmed for four generations, planting their own Mazzoni clone of Zinfandel alongside Cabernet Sauvignon and a field blend called Cappella. Visitors get wines shaped by those concrete fermenters and ambient yeasts, a technique Mark brought from old-world winemaking into this Geyserville facility.

Zialena's patio looks directly over Mazzoni Vineyard, where rows of Cabernet Sauvignon and the Mazzoni clone of Zinfandel stretch across 100 acres in Geyserville. Mark and Lisa Mazzoni broke ground here in 2016, designing every room around those ten concrete tanks. Inside, fermenters stand floor-to-ceiling, their porous walls letting oxygen shape each lot. Outside, River Road runs along the property line, and Alexander Valley benchlands rise beyond the vines.
The 1897 Tasting pairs five pours with patio seating for $40, a semi-private setup available daily at 10 a.m. For $70, the Winery Suite Experience adds a walk through the production facility where Mark explains how ambient yeasts and concrete fermentation build layers in his Cabernet and Zinfandel. The Heritage Tour, at $150, takes guests into the vineyard by vehicle, with family stories and farming details Mark and Lisa learned from three generations before them.
