Kivelstadt Cellars is renowned for its commitment to organic farming and minimal intervention winemaking, allowing the unique terroir of its vineyards to shine through in every bottle. Founded in 2007 by Jordan Kivelstadt, the winery sources grapes from historic and organic vineyards across California, creating a diverse range of wines that reflect the true characteristics of each varietal. Visitors can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere in the tasting lounge and garden, where they can experience innovative wines, including their celebrated orange wines.
Kivelstadt was among California's earliest producers of orange wine, a skin-contact style they've refined since 2007. Their KC Labs Gravignon Blanc blends sauvignon blanc with Gravenstein apples, and Sparkling Chenin Blanc pours light and bubbly alongside Traditional Flight pours featuring Charbono.
The WineGarden sits under 100-year-old sycamores, with a sunny patio adjacent to Bloom Carneros on the outskirts of Sonoma. Hillside vines of Pinot Noir and Syrah climb behind the property, alongside newer plantings of Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Gamay Noir. Wines pour straight from kegs to eliminate waste, and dogs have their own menu.
Both the Lounge Tasting and Small Group Wine Tasting run $30 and offer casual pours in the garden or among hillside vines. The Traditional Flight includes Charbono and other California varieties outside the Chardonnay-and-Cabernet mainstream. A thoughtful menu includes burgers and shareable plates without fuss, and wines like Twice Removed Rosé and Sonomasuolo Red Blend pour alongside the orange wines Kivelstadt built their reputation on.
