Chuck Wagner and his parents made 240 cases of Cabernet in 1972; today the family still farms the same Rutherford land.
Caymus Vineyards, founded in 1972 by Chuck Wagner and his parents, is a family-owned winery located in the heart of Napa Valley. Known for its exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon, Caymus emphasizes meticulous viticulture practices and a commitment to quality, producing wines that are rich, dark, and fruit-driven. The winery's legacy is carried on by the next generation of Wagners, who continue to honor the family's winemaking traditions while exploring new vineyard sites across California.
The Wagners' great-grandfather Lafayette Stice worked as a winemaker at Brun & Chaix on Howell Mountain around 1900, and their great-great-grandparents homesteaded there in the 1880s. Caymus remains 100% family-owned, with Charlie and Jenny Wagner now running the operation their grandfather started with just 240 cases.

The winery sits on the original Rutherford property where Lorna and Charlie Wagner Sr. grew up just a mile apart before marrying in 1934. The tasting room operates alongside a retail shop that opens at 9:30 and closes at 5:00, while by-the-glass service runs until 4:30. Vines surround the working winery where the family still farms, prunes, and produces wine in the same location Chuck Wagner said yes to at age 19.

The Seated Tasting runs $50 per person and takes 1.5 hours, offered by appointment between 9:30 and 3:30. Guests taste a variety of wines made by the Wagner family, including Cabernet Sauvignon from the estate and selections from other family labels. The family pours in the same space where Chuck, Charlie, and Jenny continue the operation, and hosts often share stories about the early pruning shears that bore Chuck and Charlie Sr.'s initials.
