A five-generation German winemaking family focuses entirely on Pinot Noir from Carneros and the Sonoma Coast.
Schug Winery is renowned for its legacy of crafting exceptional Pinot Noir, deeply rooted in the Schug family's winemaking heritage. With a commitment to terroir-driven wines, the winery sources grapes from the diverse landscapes of the Sonoma Coast, ensuring each bottle reflects the unique essence of its origin. Visitors can expect a journey of passion and excellence, highlighted by the artistry of winemaker Johannes Scheid and the culinary expertise of Chef Kristine, who pairs exquisite flavors with their wines.
Schug bottles Pinot Noir from eight different vineyard sources between Carneros and the Sonoma Coast, each fermented and aged separately to show terroir differences side by side. Winemaker Johannes Scheid works with fruit from sites that range from cool-climate fog zones to warmer inland blocks, and each wine carries a vineyard designate on the label.

Bonneau Road cuts through flat Carneros vineyard land, and Schug sits just off the pavement with working crush pads and fermentation tanks visible from the parking area. A tasting bar occupies one end of a production-adjacent room with small windows that look out onto rows of Pinot vines. The Estate Cave Experience starts outdoors with sparkling wine, then moves through underground barrel storage carved into hillside behind the winery building.
The $40 bar tasting accommodates up to four people and pours through current Pinot Noir releases; reservations are required, especially in winter when seating shrinks. The $65 Estate Cave Experience begins with sparkling wine outside, then continues with a walk through underground barrel rooms before finishing with a seated flight. Chef Kristine pairs dishes with selected wines during some visits, though pairing availability varies by season and reservation type.

Join us for an intimate tasting experience at our bar, accommodating up to 4 guests. Reservations are highly recommended. Our winter space is limited—reserve your spot to guarantee seating at the bar. Walk-ins welcome based on availability.
Our signature tasting is a private journey through the heart of Schug. It begins with a warm welcome and a glass of sparkling wine, then unfolds with a guided stroll through the cave before culminating in a seated tasting in one of our most intimate spaces. Thoughtful, immersive, and distinctly Schug.
