Korbel has produced California sparkling wine by méthode champenoise since 1882.
Korbel Champagne Cellars has been a pioneer in sparkling wine since its establishment in 1882, with a rich history that began when the Korbel brothers arrived in America with a dream. The winery is known for its vibrant and versatile sparkling wines, and continues to honor old-world traditions under the guidance of Champagne Winemaker Adolf Heck and his son Gary.
The Heck family has owned Korbel since 1954, keeping the Korbel brothers' original sparkling wine legacy alive for seventy years. Visitors taste wines made the same way they were in the 19th century, in a working winery that still bottles its own brandy alongside bottles of Brut, Extra Dry, and Rouge.

Korbel sits at 13250 River Road in Guerneville, where redwoods edge the Russian River Valley vineyard blocks. The 1882 winery complex includes the original cellar buildings where the Korbel brothers first bottled sparkling wine. Gardens wrap around the historic structures, and a deli now anchors the visitor area alongside tasting spaces. The setting feels less like a modern tasting destination and more like a working production facility with deep roots.

The Stand-Up Tasting lets visitors pick any three pours for $15 at the bar, choosing from the full lineup of Korbel sparklers—Brut, Extra Dry, Brut Rosé, Sweet Rosé, Blanc de Noirs, Rouge, or the Natural. Staff pour generous tastes and talk about méthode champenoise production. Groups of seven or more book a private tasting for $25 per person. It's a straightforward, casual format that lets the wines do the talking.
