Robert and PJ Rex have been making wine here since 1972 and ferment with their CleanWine® process.
Deerfield Ranch Winery, founded by Robert and PJ Rex, has a rich history that began in 1972 when Robert made his first wine in a garage. The winery, located in Sonoma Valley, is known for its unique CleanWine® philosophy, which emphasizes producing wines that are both enjoyable and beneficial. Visitors can explore the expansive 23,000 sq. ft. wine cave and experience tastings that reflect the passion and history of this family-owned establishment.
The Reserve Tasting In The Cave pours five wines from vintages Wine Spectator named among the best of the decade, all small-batch and aged longer than standard releases. Robert Rex still makes every wine, fifty harvests into a family project that began in a garage and now centers on low-sulfite fermentation.

A 23,000-square-foot wine cave runs through the property, with a Grand Room carved out at its center where both the Signature and Reserve tastings take place. Guests walk past barrels stacked along cave walls to reach the tasting tables. Highway 12 runs just outside, putting Deerfield Ranch on the main Kenwood corridor between organic vineyard rows and the crushpad where Robert Rex still oversees production.

The Signature Tasting In The Cave ($35) seats guests in the Grand Room and pours five current releases with a guide who explains the Rex family's winemaking timeline. The Reserve Tasting In The Cave ($75) focuses on aged, small-lot wines from what the winery calls the best vintages of the decade. A Vineyard Tour & Tasting ($90) starts in the organic vineyards, moves through the production facility where staff explain the CleanWine® low-sulfite process, then finishes with a tasting.
